01 — Shop

The floor where it’s made

The shop is laid out the way steel moves: material in, cut and drill, fit-up, weld, finish, staged for shipping.

A

Cut & drill

Saw, drill line and cutting table for beams, tube, angle and plate. Parts are marked to the piece mark before they move to fit-up.

B

Fit-up

Fitters assemble from shop drawings on layout tables, checking square, length and hole patterns before tacking.

C

Weld

Structural welders complete the joints called for on the drawings. Welds are visually inspected before parts move on.

D

Finish

Cleaning, primer or the specified coating, and touch-up. Galvanized pieces are coordinated with an outside galvanizer.

E

Ship

Pieces are tagged, bundled in erection sequence and loaded so the field crew can set them in order.
